The person who formulates it

Straight Hemp is formulated by its founder, Devin Alvarez. He holds an MS in Environmental Science and Biotechnology from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and triple majored in Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics at Florida State University after graduating from the US Air Force Academy.

Before founding Straight Hemp, Devin was Quality Control Officer at Agricor Labs, testing other companies’ products for the developing cannabis industry in Colorado. He went on to help co-develop testing and quality regulations with the State of Colorado, setting the standards producers had to pass for potency, pesticides, heavy metals, biocontaminants and residual solvents.

He spent years failing other people’s bottles. Straight Hemp is what he built instead. He formulates everything we sell.

What we test for

Quality control in the hemp industry is poor. We impose our own testing so our purity claims can be verified rather than asserted. Every batch goes through third-party lab analysis, and we publish the report for the lot.

Potency

We confirm cannabinoid and terpene levels are consistent batch to batch, and that THC in our full spectrum products stays below the federal limit of 0.3%.

Terpenes

We test for known terpenes to keep the profile consistent across a product line, and publish the profile per lot.

Residual solvents

Our extraction is clean, and we test for residual solvents such as butane and ethyl alcohol to confirm our supply, cleaning and repair procedures are holding.

Biocontaminants

We test for yeasts and molds, which are common in many growing environments, so that a new risk shows up in testing rather than in a bottle.

Pesticides and fungicides

None are used on our farms, in our facilities, or in transport. We test to confirm nothing has drifted in from neighboring farms.

Heavy metals

We test soils before planting, during growth and harvest, and on every delivery after.

Hemp draws up what is in the ground it grew in. That is why the soil gets tested before the plant does, and why the report travels with the lot rather than with the brand.
